From Cafe Writing's July-August Project:

Option One: Seven Things

"Gimme Gimme Gimme" ABBA

In improvisation, one of our exercises is a game called "Seven Things," in which we go around in a circle giving each other the challenge, "Give me seven things that [whatever]." We are not going to go around in a circle here, but if you're drawn to lists, this prompt is for you.

So, gimme (give me) seven things that cause shadows in your life
OR
Gimme seven things that you do to chase the shadows away.

You are not required to provide any explanations, but it's more interesting for readers if you do.

One-liners: My Shadows [PostSecret version]

i. 1997: Seven was your age of finding heaven, but mine was the beginning of teenage hell.
ii. You find comfort in booze, smoke rings, and lottery tickets, while I constantly crave for words, touch, and freedom.
iii. For you, letting go through cyberspace had always been easier than letting go from teardrop-to-teardrop.
iv. In my dreams, I exploded on the school's gym floor like it was out of a horror story, but in reality, I built a black hole that I couldn't get out of for years.
v. Sometimes, I'd rather be a bird to not know or experience self-pity ("Self-Pity" by D. H. Lawrence).
vi. I oftentimes cried when I take a shower because I was just simply NOT comfortable in my own skin--even to this day.
vii. Don't let me be dolled-up in a snow globe and leave me alone on a shelf; I need your time to collide with mine so together we can shape out an hourglass.
viii. I'm just a complicated girl wanting to live a simple life; I wish finances were easier to predict, but they are the real PMS.
ix. I'm afraid of running short of strength and not knowing where to get more.

This is such a great prompt--I love list poems--and what an intense piece you've crafted from it!

list that I could have wrote
they're all very simple but wrapped in complicated covers but number 5, strikes me, hard to remove self doubt even with verbal reassurance

First, these are beautifully crafted and so poetic in their simplicity.
Second, thanks for participating.
Third - NINE? Overachiever! :)
